Thank you to everyone who joined us on 28 April for the fourth hui session of Puna Koorero – Trusted Voices: Preparing for winter with Akarere Henry (South Waikato Pacific Islands Community Services Trust) and Janise Eketone (Waikato District Health Board).

The recording is available here if you missed it. ‘Get Connected, Get Protected’ – our latest Puna Koorero session focuses on preparing for winter. Akarere Henry and Janise Eketone share some insights into what to expect from COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 illnesses over the winter season and how to best prepare and safeguard your wellbeing.

Hui highlights:

  • Expect a rise in COVID-19 cases due to borders opening; another COVID-19 booster vaccination coming for our vulnerable communities

  • ‘Get connected, get protected’ – prepare now for winter illnesses, both COVID-related and non-COVID illnesses such as RSV, flu, and measles due to lower immunisation levels; connect with a health provider, enrol with a GP

  • ‘Local faces from local places’ – whanaungatanga, supporting whaanau and people in our community to access the services they need

  • Heretohelpunz – for support with welfare and wellbeing, information on COVID-19 testing, RATS, isolation and more phone 0800 568-273 or visit their website

  • Marae and church gatherings – continue to practice good public health such as hand washing, using hand sanitiser, mask wearing, and staying home when ill.
