Meet our Trustees

The Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees who are kaitiaki for the Trust funds. They are appointed by the Minister of Finance.

    Vicky McLennan was appointed as a trustee of Trust Waikato in June 2017, and she is now Chair.

    Previously she was Principal at Waikato Diocesan School for Girls. In her nine years of principalship, Vicky was heavily involved in local and regional educational networks and in the wider community, encouraging the school and its students to support local events, community projects and charities. She is passionate about education, the potential of youth and the power of collaborative communities to transform lives.

    Having moved to Hamilton from Christchurch to take up the Principal's role in 2008, Vicky has become an enthusiastic advocate for the Waikato region.

    “I am excited by its progress, its increasing vibrancy and enhanced sense of community,” says Vicky, “and it is a real privilege to be involved in the ongoing growth and development of the Waikato area”.

    Vicky is also a trustee of the Alandale Foundation Trust and a contracted provider for NZ School Trustees Association, providing governance support to school boards.

    Janise was appointed as a trustee for Trust Waikato in August of 2018.

    As a trustee, Janise brings experience from her role as the current General Manager Maaori Health with the Waikato District Health Board. She was also a previous Chief Executive Officer for the Maniapoto Maaori Trust Board.

    Chris Flatt was appointed as a trustee of Trust Waikato in June 2018 and has been the National Secretary of the NZ Dairy Workers Union - Te Runanga Wai U (DWU) based in the DWU’s Hamilton National Office since August 2012.

    Chris is also a current director on several boards including Muka Tangata – People, Food, & Fibre Workforce Development Council (WDC), UniMed Ltd, and the Waikato Trade Union Centre Ltd.

    Chris has also worked as a private practice employment lawyer in both Auckland and Sydney and holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) from the University of Waikato - Te Whare Wananga o Waikato. Chris is also an Associate Member of Governance New Zealand (formerly the NZ Chartered Company Secretaries Association) and a Member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.

    Chris loves living in the Waikato, having lived in Hamilton while studying at Waikato University from 1993 to 1999, and for the last six years has lived in Cambridge with his wife Sharlene and their three young children. Chris is excited about the opportunity to serve the wider Waikato community through his work on Trust Waikato.

    Anjum Rahman is a chartered accountant with over 25 years’ experience, working with a range of entities in the commercial, farming and not-for-profit sectors. Her knowledge and experience, coupled with attention to detail, see Anjum working on more complex accounting jobs and providing larger businesses with monthly reporting and management accounts. Anjum has specialist skills in financial reporting standards, taxation of investment income and farm accounting.

    She also commits to various volunteer roles in the community. Anjum was a founding member of the Islamic Women’s Council of New Zealand, an organisation formed in 1990 to bring Muslim women together and represent their concerns.

    Over the years, she has been chair, secretary, and for many years, the media spokesperson. She has also been a founding member and trustee of Shama (Hamilton Ethnic Women’s Centre), a social service organisation that provides support to ethnic women through its social work service, life-skills classes and community development.

    She is a founding member of the Campaign for Consent Waikato, an organisation working on sexual violence prevention, and in that role, has been involved in a number of programmes to raise community awareness. The organisation has been working on setting up an agency network to coordinate activities within Hamilton, as well as pushing for research into the prevalence and impact of sexual violence in ethnic communities.

    Anjum has been an active member of the Waikato Interfaith Council for over a decade, a trustee of the Trust that governs Hamilton’s community access broadcaster, Free FM, and a trustee of the Ethnic New Zealand Trust. The latter undertakes projects to promote awareness of human rights within the community.

    Along with these roles, she writes poetry, is a member of the interfaith choir, and is a mother of two. She takes on various public speaking engagements on a voluntary basis. Her favourite activity, for reasons which should be evident, is sleeping.

    Chong graduated with Bachelor of Media Arts with Honours in 2008 and worked from 2005 to 2008 as the Chief Reporter at “Waikato Weekly” which is a local Chinese Newspaper distributed in the Waikato region.

    In 2011, Chong was appointed to the board of Arts Waikato. During those years of personal and career development, Chong established a strong link with local communities.

    In 2015, Chong obtained Bachelor of Law with Honours. After being admitted in June 2015, Chong now practises as a Barrister & Solicitor at Jefferies Law Ltd in Hamilton.

    Chong has been voluntarily working as the Secretary at the New Zealand School of Traditional Chinese Music and Performing Arts Charitable Trust since 2008. In his spare time, he pursues his personal interest in music, especially the fusion style of music which blends Western rock/metal music with traditional Chinese music.

    Jacob Quinn was appointed as a Trustee of Trust Waikato in September 2020. Jacob grew up in Hamilton and now lives in Whatawhata with his family. He has a background in local government, having held the roles of communications & engagement manager at Waikato District Council and project and program manager at Hamilton City Council.

    Jacob has volunteered aboard through the United Nations in Kosovo and Fiji. He holds a master and bachelor of arts in political studies and is an enthusiastic advocate for life in the Waikato. He looks forward to making a contribution to his community through Trust Waikato.

    Metua was appointed as a trustee to the Trust Waikato board in September 2020. She is of Kuki Airanai Maori/Cook Islands Maori descent, fully conversant in her native tongue and passionate about making a difference for our Pacific people in Aotearoa.

    Born in Rarotonga and raised in Aitutaki by her paternal grandparents until she was five, Metua returned to her birth parents in Rarotonga for schooling. She left for Aotearoa at the age of nine, as it was her parents wish for her to have a better education, and feels truly blessed to have been raised here by her maternal uncle and aunty.

    After attending Hillcrest High School, Metua completed studies in the areas of education, community and social work. She has since worked in the social work fields of administration, budgeting, intellectual and physical disabilities, and adult mental health and addictions.

    She is a member of the St. Luke’s Pacific Islands Presbyterian Church in Tokoroa and strives to apply the principles of the Christian faith in her daily living. She is also a trustee for Te Ara Metua Punanga Reo Kuki Airani Early Childhood Education Centre and holds the roles of Treasurer and Licensee for the centre.

    Metua is a trustee and the current Chairperson for South Waikato Pacific Islands Community Services Trust (SWPICS) in Tokoroa having held this role for 17 years. She also holds a position on the Aere Tai Collective board in her capacity as Chairperson for SWPICS.

    A resident of Tokoroa for the past 36 years, Metua enjoys meeting and interacting with people from all walks of life. She has been married to her husband Tupuiariki Daniel-Malietoa, who is of Samoan, Cook Islands Maori and Scottish descent, for 36 years. They have been blessed with four adult children and ten mokopuna – and are presently awaiting the birth of their 11th mokopuna.

    She is looking forward to collectively working with like-minded people, learning new skills, sharing experiences and skill sets for the betterment of all communities we serve in the greater Waikato region.

    Michael Noonan was Chair of The Supported Life Style Hauraki Trust from 2007 to 2018 and still sits on the Board of Trustees. Michael has over 20 years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector, with a background in radio and TV, sales and marketing.

    Michael is an advocate with a strong network across various sectors. One of his other roles has been the establishment and leadership of the Coromandel Independent Living Trust, a charitable trust based in Coromandel Town, delivering a wide variety of Social Services and Community Development programmes.

    Michael has also supported a number of local and national organisations over the years such Moehau Nga Tangata Whenua Trust, SPAN Trust, Inclusive New Zealand, Coromandel Community Services Trust and Driving Creek Railway, Arts and Conservation Trust, by being a governing member.

    He is committed to developing organisations that will make a real difference to the communities of the upper Coromandel. Michael is a full member of the Blind Foundation and Blind Citizens Aotearoa.

    In his spare time, he and his wife, Alison Carter, a former documentary producer, live on a 5.5 hectare block, restoring it to native bush, thereby encouraging the return of many indigenous birds to the Coromandel.

    Michael was appointed as a Trustee in August 2021.

    Parmindar was appointed as a trustee to Trust Waikato in September 2020.

    She is a fourth generation Waikato dairy farmer, Managing Director and an independent consultant. In addition to hands-on farm work over the last twenty years, Parmindar has built a career in education, organisational development, strategic thinking and planning and leadership.

    Parmindar’s work experience includes working alongside executives in education, commercial, corporate, local government and not-for-profit sectors. Her governance experience is broad, and ranges from farm directorships, to trustee and associate director roles. Parmindar is committed to leading change and influencing through governance roles to generate prosperity for future generations.

    Robert was born and raised in Auckland before moving to Hamilton in 2006. Professionally he is a Director / Shareholder of Greenstone Group, one of New Zealand’s premier Project and Property Advisory Consultancy firms.

    With 31 years’ experience in the construction industry, Rob has gained skillsets that allow him to view issues from a governance perspective to assist in finding solutions to complex situations which benefit wide sectors of the community.

    Robert is the Chair of the Horsham Downs School Board of Trustees, having been on the Board since 2016. He has also served as Waikato branch president and national council executive of the Property Council of New Zealand from 2011 to 2015 and was on the branch committee from 2010 to 2018.

    Robert is also actively involved with Northern United Sports Club junior football committee, having coached or managed his daughter's teams in some capacity for the last 7 years.

    He is supported by his wife Zandra and three daughters, who are passionate supporters of the local community.

    "I have a deep belief for giving back to the community and making a positive contribution to society. I would like the opportunity to continue to be involved with further developing that passion and community spirit."

    Robert was appointed as a Trustee in August 2021.

The Trust has been governed by trustees since its inception in 1988.

Appointments are usually for a four-year term and trustees may be reappointed.
