Abstract
The Not-for-Profit (NFP) sector and volunteering play an important role in our community. Like those in the business sector NFP organisations from time to time have to improve their ways of operation. It is believed that the Internet technology, if being applied appropriately, could help NFP organisations to serve the community more efficiently and effectively.

In July 2002 questionnaires were sent to 60 NFP organisations in the Waikato covering different sizes and different sectors. The questionnaires asked NFP organisations about their existing Internet applications practice and related problems.

Due to the diverse nature and background of the surveyed NFP organisations, respondents reflected different degrees/levels of Internet applications. In general NFP organisations believed that Internet technology can assist the way that they run their organisations. They also expected they can better promote their services and images if Internet technology and Websites could be applied to a greater extent.

NFP organisations understand that training is necessary but due to financial and other constraints they just cannot afford the time and budget. Relevant training is not just for the staff but also for their clients, volunteers and board members.
