Abstract
Over a period of fifteen weeks this project, ‘Striving for Sponsorship’, was undertaken by seven second year Bachelor of Nursing students together with a tutor, who worked in partnership with the Western Community Centre to identify background information about sponsorship for their annual community event ‘Stars in the Park’.
Initially our project group undertook a literature review and identified aspects regarding sponsorship (see pages 14-19). From this review of relevant literature we identified the issues to be explored further and conducted four unstructured interviews with professionals who have knowledge in this area (key informants). From the analysis of the data collected we identified common themes from which key findings were developed. The project group then formulated recommendations in partnership with the Western Community Centre.
One of the recommendations that have arisen from the project is that a sponsorship proposal must show the benefits to the potential sponsor and why their company was chosen. Also for the benefit of both parties the potential sponsor’s core values must be congruent with the organisations values. Proposals need to be brief, to the point and catch the attention of the potential sponsor.
The project group hope that these recommendations will allow the Western Community Centre to further explore and develop a funding proposal so that they can achieve long-term sponsorship for ‘Stars in the Park’.
