Trust Waikato Invites Applications to Special Tsunami Fund

Trust Waikato has established a special fund to support organisations who are working with local people and families affected by the tsunami in Samoa and Tonga and to assist with the costs of fundraising for tsunami relief.
“Trust Waikato identified a real need to support local people, through community organisations, who have been affected by the tsunami,” says Trust Chair John Kilbride. “This disaster has affected many people in our region and the Trust felt a responsibility to provide support. The Trust Waikato Tsunami Fund, of $25,000, has been set up to support community groups who are planning local projects to support affected local families and planning fundraising events for tsunami relief.”
Two of the principles of Trust Waikato are valuing and recognizing cultural diversity and valuing and supporting community organisations. The Trust has funding priorities of supporting families and young people and strengthening communities. The special Tsunami Fund complements these principles and priorities. This fund will close on 31 March 2010. Applications to this fund are invited in addition to Trust Waikato’s three funding rounds for the year.
This week the Trust will be emailing community groups on their database and sending letters to Pacific Island groups to advise them of the fund and invite their applications. Trust staff will also work with key Pacific Island groups and community leaders to promote the fund.
